The existing building (a four story structure) was formerly utilized as office for the Puerto Rico Telephone Company. The interior of the building was in disrepair and needed to be refurbished. The owner wanted a building that would convey the corporate image of the NY Mortage Bank.

The design presented to the owner breaks the horizontal bands, that gave the building a box-like appearance, and introduced a new facade devided into three vertical elements. These would be proportioned vertically to give an illusion of height. The three partie design alludes to the architecture of the city from which the bank borrows the name.

Each module is different from the other symbolizing the diversity of that cities architecture. As a second phase a conference training centre was conceived as a 5th floor addition. The roofs of this new floor will enhance the design concept.

The banks main branch is situated on the 1st floor and the offices are on the 2nd floor. An atrium space was opened between these two floors by demolishing parts of the existing second level in order to tie these spaces and give the bank a majestic image.
